Institutional buildings, basically educational institutions and hospitals in Pune Camp area, are likely to receive a relaxation in floor space index (FSI) norms for construction activity.
PUNE: Under the new zonal development planning of the Pune Cantonment Board (PCB), institutional buildings, basically educational institutions and hospitals in Pune Camp area, are likely to receive a relaxation in floor space index (FSI) norms for construction activity. A proposal to this effect will soon be submitted to the defence estates office and the army's southern command headquarters once the final demarcation of the zones is completed by next month.
According to Vinod Mathurawala, PCB's nominated member, the relaxation in the FSI norms is being mooted to facilitate greater use of land in existing educational institutions and also encourage private medical and hospital chains to set up shop in an area where there is only one public sector hospital catering to a population of 90,000. Under the existing rules, a hangover of the now-defunct Cantonments Acts of 1924, no construction activity or renovation in the cantonment area is allowed above an FSI of one. Mathurawala said that the old norms will continue as far as residential and commercial zones are concerned.
